The DJI Phantom 3 Series is a popular prosumer aerial drone system. It is one of the more popular series because it includes a built-in camera, stabilizer and live HD monitor. However, there are a few differences between the Phantom 3 Professional and the Phantom 3 Standard. Here is a basic explanation of the features and different specs and characteristics of the two models.
Both the Standard and Professional models have the same build and cosmetic design. The drone, the controller and the camera all look exactly the same. They are both also equipped with a 3 axis gimbal. The gimbal is basically a robotic stabilizer for the camera. It ensures that your shots are smooth because it prevents the camera from having sudden jolts.
The DJI Phantom 3 Standard
The DJI Phantom 3 Standard costs just $800. This includes the camera, a battery, the controller and few other small accessories. It is the newest and most affordable in the 3 series. The most notable absence is the live-view monitor. However, there is a mount for a smartphone. To use the standard in Live View Mode, you need to run an application on your smart phone or tablet. Currently, the app is only offered in iOS. So if you have an iPhone, you basically have a free monitor already. The Standard camera can shoot up to 2.4k HD video, which is quite impressive for the price.
The DJI Phantom 3 Professional
The Professional model comes with all the same accessories and supplies as the Standard. The main difference of the Professional model is 4k HD capabilities of the camera and the $1300 price tag. The Live View Mode can be similarly run through an app on a smart device. Of course, you can buy packages that include a monitor. Many professionals prefer having a separate monitor as opposed to using their smart device. With a monitor, you can free up your phone and you also have the ability to change the batteries for the monitor while on a shoot.
Flying a drone is exciting, even if you are not even running a camera. If you are just getting started in drone photography, you will probably find that the Standard is perfectly suitable for your needs. The beefed up specs of the video on the Professional are mostly needed for high end productions that experienced drone photographers often need. But it can compete with much large, more expensive drone systems.Learn More
